More Firms Cut Labor Costs Without Layoffs

To limit layoffs, employers are using four-day workweeks and unpaid vacations, along with wage freezes and flexible work schedules. More . . .
In my opinion: Another way is for a company to re-focus on areas of core-competencies. Non-core areas could be examined to choose divisions/ functional units appropriate to be outsourced. When negotiating the "outsourcing relationship", company could make it mandatory for oursourcing partner to employ company's employees erswhile working in that division/ functional unit. Significant cost savings can be achieved since the outsourcing partner would offer economies of scale. Also the Human Capital and People objective is met since company's employees are now employed by outsourcing partner from day-one viz. without any "bench" or "out-of-pay" time gap.
